Restaurant history of 405 Wellington Street. From the Top Hat to Barnaby's

The new building opened in July 1946 as Schiffman's Top Hat Drive-In Restaurant, then was the Maverick from 1961 to 1972.

It was the Steak Out from 1973 to closure in 1981 when it sat vacant for nearly a year for remodeling. In July of 1982 it reopened as Heath and Company with ten large Shaughnessy cowboy art paintings adorning the walls until 1986 when they were removed. In 1987 it became JD's on the Green East, then Barnaby's from 1988 to 2000.

Western art oil paintings on boards were removed from Heath & Company Restaurant at 405 Wellington Street when it closed in 1986. All are dated 1982 and painted by Shaughnessy . Thanks to Julia and Brent Dunn for sharing these images of the works that were rescued by his dad Frank Dunn, the eatery's owner from 1982 to 1986. Any information on the unknown artist is sought.
