Val Jensen started his series of women's apparel stores in 1919 with a naming contest that yielded the Criterion. He continued with the Little Shop at 5 N. 2nd before moving to 5 S. 1st in 1933 and formally naming the store Val Jensen's. It closed in 1957. Thanks to his son Val E. Jensen for contributing to this post.
