Walter Brennan, movie and TV star, was greeted at the airport by the 59ers and Fair Farmerettes on July 25 1963 while on his way to Chief Joseph Days. The motorcade took him to his birthday party at the Marcus Whitman Hotel. File photos courtesy of the Union-Bulletin.

Brennan bought a ranch and home near Joseph, Oregon in 1940. He was a regular in the Chief Joseph Days parades, and was the Parade Marshal in 1969.
